What is Reiki?

Reiki (universal energy) is a powerful natural healing method. Reiki can restore and replenish vital energy to the body as well as, balance energies at the mental, spiritual , physical and emotional levels.

The Reiki system of natural healing was developed in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist monk. The Reiki system uses non-invasive  gentle touch, accelerates the body’s natural healing process and can be used as a self supportive tool to support healing on all levels. Reiki is accepted and utilized  in hospitals, hospices, spas and wellness centers throughout the United States.

As with all other holistic healing modalities, Reiki is most effective with a consistent treatment program. Your body can heal itself. However, long term imbalances in the body may require multiple treatments to allow the body to reach the level of relaxation necessary to bring the system back into balance.

What is a Reiki treatment like?

During a Reiki session you remain fully clothed (loose, comfortable clothing is suggested) while comfortably reclining on a massage table or seated in a chair.

Reiki treatment proceeds with the practitioner placing their hands on the recipient  in various positions. Some practitioners use a non-touching technique, where the hands are held a few inches away from the recipients body.

The hands are usually kept still for 3 to 5 minutes before moving to the next position. The hand positions usually give a general coverage of the head, the front and back of the body, knees and feet. A treatment can last from 45 to 90 minutes.

The recipient  often feels warmth or tingling in the area being treated, even when using  a non-touching approach. A state of deep relaxation, combined with  a general feeling of wellbeing is usually the most noticeable immediate effect of the treatment.
